Kui (夔)

The description from Classic of Mountains and Seas

"东海中有流波山,入海七千里。其上有兽,其状如牛,苍身而无角一足,出入水则必风雨,其光如日月,其声如雷,其名曰夔。黄帝得之,以其皮为鼓,橛以雷兽之骨,声闻五百里,以威天下。"

There is a Liubo mountain in the 7,000 miles to the East Sea. On the mountain there is a beast, and its shape is like cow. It has a teal body, but no horns and with only one hoof. It will be accompanied by strong wind and heavy rain when entering the sea. The light this animal emits is like the sun and the moon, and its roar like thunder. Its name is Kui. When the Emperor Huang got it, he used its skins cover drum and use its bones to beat the drum. The sound spread 500 miles and inspire awe throughout the world.

Guoyu (国语)

“木石之怪曰夔、蝄蜽。”

The monsters of wood and stone are called Kui and Wangliang.

Shuowen Jiezi (说文解字)

“夔,神魅也,如龙一足。”

Kui, it is monster of deity. It is like dragon and only has one hoof.

Chuxueji (初学记)

“夔牛重千斤,晋时此牛出上庸郡。”

Kui cattle weighed thousands of catties, and the cattle came out of Shangyong County during the Jin Dynasty.
